Mr. LEONHARDT grew up loving Martial Arts, watching classic ninja movies as a kid, like American Ninja, The Karate Kid, and Bloodsport.
Mr. LEONHARDT started his Taekwon-Do training in 1989 at eleven years old. Mr. LEONHARDT started Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and after two years of training took a break from Martial Arts.
In 1997, Mr. LEONHARDT returned to Taekwon-Do training with Grand Master DOERKSEN in Wetaskiwin. Mr. LEONHARDT loved Taekwon-Do so much that he started travelling to Camrose to train with Grand Master DOERKSEN at his other school. Mr. LEONHARDT attended every class Grand Master DOERKSEN had to offer, including seminars, testings, and tournaments. Mr. LEONHARDT was training up to five days a week, three hours a day. This amount of training allowed Mr. LEONHARDT to get his first Degree (I Dan) Black Belt in about three and a half years.
Mr. LEONHARDT has over 35 years experience in martial arts and defence training. Mr. LEONHARDT has tried many types of martial arts over the years, including: Karate, Jeet Kune Do, Jiu-Jitsu, BJJ, Kung-Fu, Hapkido, and Aikido. Mr. LEONHARDT found that he loved Taekwon-Do and Jiu-Jitsu the most, being the more traditional martial arts. Mr. LEONHARDT holds a 6th degree black belt in Taekwon-Do and a green belt in Jiu-Jitsu.
Mr. LEONHARDT has been a Law Enforcement Officer for 16 years and is passionate about self defence. Mr. LEONHARDT uses his experience to teach a real approach to self defence and awareness.
Mr. McMULLEN started Taekwon-Do over 26 years ago and has trained throughout Alberta. Mr McMULLEN has trained with all his family members; his one daughter is also a II dan and teaches TKD in Airdrie.
After attaining his black belt, Mr McMULLEN realized that the “training was just beginning” and felt the need to continue to learn and train.
Becoming an Assistant Instructor with Lionheart Martial Arts has been one of Mr McMULLENs highlights and he looks forward to watching a young club grow every day.
Mr. McMullen works in Emergency Services and enjoys time with family whenever possible.
Mr. McMullen received the 2020 Fire Chief of the Year Award from The Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) and the Fire Underwriters Survey of Canada. See Article.
